Walk to Make Alzheimer’s a Memory

Oasis Senior Advisors East Tennessee is proud to once again be sponsoring the Walk to Make Alzheimer’s a Memory, the annual fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Tennessee, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, education, and resources to individuals and families who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

The Walk to Make Alzheimer’s a Memory will be held Saturday, April 29, rain or shine, at Willow Springs Park in Johnson City, with registration opening at 10 AM. There will be live entertainment, games, door prizes, and food, and the walk commences at 11:20.

The walk is a community event that brings together individuals and families who have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease, according to Neal Bowes, owner of Oasis Senior Advisors East Tennessee. “It’s a chance for people to come together and share their stories, to honor those who have lost their lives to this disease, and to show their support for those are currently living with it now,” says Bowes. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the impact Alzheimer’s disease has on our communities and to encourage people to get involved in the fight against this disease.

Tracy Kendall Wilson, the Northeast Tennessee Regional Director for Alzheimer’s Tennessee says the organization provides a wide range of services to individuals and families who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. “Our services include support groups, education and training programs, and advocacy services,” Wilson says. “We are committed to helping individuals and families navigate the challenges that come with a dementia diagnosis and provide personalized support and guidance to each person who reaches out to us.”

One of the most important services Alzheimer’s Tennessee provides is their support groups. These groups are designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals who are living with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their caregivers and family members. Support groups offer a chance for people to connect with others who are going through similar experiences, to share their stories and to offer each other support and guidance.

The organization also offers education and training programs to help individuals and families better understand all forms of dementia and how to manage its symptoms. These programs cover a wide range of topics, including communication strategies, behavior management, and caregiver support.

“The services Tracy and her organization bring to our region are invaluable,” says Bowes, “and the money raised in our region stays in our region to support these programs.”

Everyone can get involved in this event to support the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. For more information, see AlzTennessee.org/TriCitiesWalk.
